Allahabad Bank's "Indira Gandhi Farmers' &
Entrepreneurship Development Institute" Inaugurated by Sonia Gandhi
Allahabad Bank has set up "Indira Gandhi Farmers' &
Entrepreneurship Development Institute" at Rae Bareily to operationalise an
integrated, comprehensive and holistic training model based on single window approach for
capacity building of Farmers' & Entrepreneurs.
Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the National Advisory Council
inaugurated the Institute on 8th July 2005 in a function organized by the Allahabad Bank
at Rae Bareily.While dedicating the Institute to the people of Rae Bareily and adjoining
districts, Smt. Gandhi appreciated the role and contribution of Allahabad Bank in setting
up such a unique Institute. She said that the Farmers' & Entrepreneurship Development
Institute set up by the Bank is an effective step for ensuring the economic and social
empowerment of farmers particularly belonging to small/marginal tenant categories, rural
entrepreneurs, women, SHGs other vulnerable sections of the society.
Smt. Gandhi also interacted with the trainees of the Institute and
expressed happiness over the effectiveness of the model conceived by Allahabad Bank for
delivering training, credit and facilities of infrastructures linkages under one roof. She
appealed to the people of the area to make full use of the facilities available at the
Institute for enhancing production, employment and income generation.
On this occasion Smt. Sonia Gandhi launched Tenant Farmers' Financing
Scheme formulated by Allahabad Bank for providing loans to this category of farmers who
cultivate others land and having no access to formal credit institutions. Smt. Gandhi
praised the initiatives taken by the bank for formulating such scheme for tenant farmers.
She distributed Kisan Credit Cards to five tenant farmers financed by the bank under the
new scheme.
Shri O.N. Singh, Chairman & Managing Director, Allahabad bank
announced to donate mobile PCO sets one each to 25 physically handicapped persons for
their self employment. Smt. Sonia Gandhi distributed mobile PCO sets to five selected
physically handicapped persons in the said function.
